The Co-op is proud of the expertise and experience that we have collected in our team of consultants.  Over the years that the Strategic Consulting Partnership (SCP) has been in existence, our consultants have been part of some ground-breaking initiatives, helping get right back to the core of what communities and non-profit organizations need.

 

Tim Beachy
M.A.

Tim has more than 30 years in the non-profit sector. Prior to founding the Co-op, Tim held the position of Vice President of United Way of Canada and Executive Director of the Community Social Service Employers Association of B.C. He works directly with many organizations that are undertaking co-operative and enterprising development.  Tim was also the founding CEO of the Co-op.

Wayne Hanna
PhD, MSW, FCMC, CHRP

Wayne’s practice is focused on Management and Organizational Development.  Prior to entering the management consulting profession, he held senior administrative and human resource development positions in the public and not-for-profit sectors. In over twenty years as a Management Consultant he has consulted extensively in the public, not-for-profit and private sectors.  His expertise is in the areas of change management, organizational behaviour, management development, strategic planning, performance management, executive coaching, team building and organization development.

Nate Kraft

Nate’s focus is on providing non-profit business leaders with the information and tools to make informed decisions to obtain maximum benefit from their Information Technology resources.

Nate has over ten years experience managing information technology infrastructure, software, web content, I.T. vendors and I.T. staff. He currently consults with a range of non-profit organizations in Canada and Australia and has commercial experience in software, sales and government environments throughout Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and the United States. Nate also regularly volunteers as a web team administrator with a local non-profit.

Scott Hughes

Scott is a leading social finance practitioner in the application of conventional tools of business and finance to charities, not-for-profits, social enterprises and cooperatives. He assists in navigating business challenges and the world of finance to improve management and increase financial resilience. Scott’s experience includes successfully leading teams and building collaborative internal and external partnerships to achieve strong results. He brings a decade of managerial experience in system evaluation, process improvement, training and HR management. Scott works directly with organizations to increase business performance and financial sustainability by diversifying revenue sources and increasing financial management capacity.

Alison Marshall
MBA, BA (Psychology), Associate Certificate in Workplace Conflict

As Senior Consultant at the United Community Services Co-op, Alison’s consulting work focuses on organizational assessments, interim leadership, workplace mediation, and facilitation. Her specialty areas include: supporting workplace change, shifting workplace cultures, building strong and resilient staff. Prior to joining the UCS Co-op, Alison worked in the non-profit sector for over twenty years, mostly in child and family services.

David Nanton
C.A.

David focuses on providing business management advice and CFO consulting services to organisations operating primarily in the not-for-profit area.  Prior to starting his business, David held Chief Financial Officer / Director of Finance roles in the non-profit and private sectors. David specializes in financial information development, reporting and analyses; business sustainability assessments; project feasibility studies; cost restraint / restructuring initiatives; policy assessment and development, fundraising and human resource issues. He taught management at BCIT. A practising karate black belt, David is married with two daughters.

John Neilson

John leads our management and human resource consulting practice. His experience extends over almost 40 years and includes several years at the most senior levels of one of BC’s largest Crown Corporations and five years as CEO of CSSEA. Governance, strategic and operational planning, managing change, and maximizing the contribution of your people are some of the areas where John can make a contribution to your agency.

Wayne Penney

Wayne has extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector as a Board member and Executive Director. During the past several years, he has developed many business plans for social enterprise initiatives in non-profits. His expertise in this area is complemented by his background in strategic planning, organization change and development, multi-stakeholder consultation processes, and human resource management. He offers an integrated perspective to clients, to enhance the sustainability of change management processes.

Evan Renaerts

Evan’s focus is on providing insightful and supportive executive (personal & professional) coaching to business and organizational leaders. The work ranges from focused applications of strategic planning, to support for clients to gain greater insight into their internal processes and beliefs in order to move beyond habitual patterns of behavior. Evan’s background includes project-management for all aspects of large multi-phase industrial & commercial projects of up to $30M – including multiple unions, complex client dynamics, safety issues, and high financial risk. Evan volunteers as an addictions counselor and has previously volunteered in palliative care/hospice.

Barbora Samieian (Farkasova)
MPhil

Barbora manages a variety of the Co-op’s consulting projects including the Vancity Diagnostic process, the Financial Fitness workshop series, and the UCS Co-op’s Financial Modeling Tool Consultation process.  Her recent projects have focused on organizational assessments, business planning, and financial modeling tool development. Barbora is an active volunteer in her community, currently volunteering as a Board member with North Shore Community Resources and as a mentor for new immigrants through the YMCA’s Connections program.

Kate Sutherland

In her 20+ years experience as a consultant working with issues as diverse as environment, food policy, social co-ops, early childhood development, and storytelling as a way of reporting outcomes. She brings a wealth of experience to designing/facilitating consultations, community engagements, multi-stakeholder processes, conferences, forums, annual meetings, workshops and retreats. Kate has taught Community Development at Langara College Continuing Studies since 2001, designed the Co-op’s Leading Change 2005, and edits our Big Think Series.
